If I live long enough, perhaps. It did not afflict my dad but my 88 year old mom has ARMD and glaucoma. I'm guessing she's been using prescription eye drops for the past 10 years but can still read large print with glasses. Cannot see from her house to the highway 300 ft. away.
For your friend invitation. Developed cataracts, diagnosed September 2000. Had to quit driving February '01. Hoped to heal the eyes and tried over 3 or four years without success. My dad celebrated his 90th birthday but was in failing health, last October. Knew my mom would need help and wanted dad to know I could provide it when he was gone. I had surgery on one eye 16 December '08. Dad died twelve days later, knowing I could see with one eye.
Had second surgery mid Jan '09. Had repeat surgery on first eye to correct a problem from the first surgery, late March and went back on line (off line from Feb ' 07) about that time. So I'm just getting my feet wet in social networking. Tested my lesser eye today, reading standard print w/o reading glasses and can do it, though not as easily as with both or best eye only. I have no complaint because it is better than last time I saw the doc who did not expect any further improvement. I did and do. Haven't even started eye exercises yet. But I will soon. Intend to stay free of macular degeneration and glaucoma.
I am excited by social networking and have been investing a lot of time and effort and love it when a comment thread turns into a conversation or conference. It is providing me a somewhat random education - scatter shot. On the other hand, I'm learning a lot about my preferences. :)
The Law of Dharma or Purpose in Life
Everyone has a purpose in life . . . a unique gift or special talent to give to others. When we blend this unique talent with service to others, we experience the ecstasy and exultation of our own spirit, which is the ultimate goal of all goals.
Dean: I haven't been around much recently but I saw your group and joined it. Maybe we can get a discussion going or something. Even if it's just the two us at least we can be mutually supportive.
