Accountability in Recovery, and American Idol
You've got to have accountability to have recovery. This goes for economic recovery, or anything else. (Who is holding the banks responsible for the loans?) This should have been a strong contractual agreement in the current national recovery plan. With consequences.
In our own recovery, accountability can also be seen as taking 100% responsibility. We are accountable for our own patterns and feelings, our woundings and their healings.
Watching American Idol last night, the question of accountability again came up.
Idol reported with glory last year that they raised $70million in their "Idol Gives Back" fundraising event. Many people donated to the cause. To the plight of those lives for which a simple 10-cent mosquito net could save life.
Last night, Idol reported that they sent out 300,000 mosquito nets. They were very self-glorifying, complete with celebrity appearances, ok, I get it, celebrity can raise alot of money, and that's a good thing. However, to those who actually do the leg work, and for those who have been doing the real work in these areas for years, it was a little annoying. But still, they raised alot of money, and keep putting greater causes into the mainstream, and that is good. It is about time.
However, I couldn't help but wonder... 70-million-dollars raised... 300,000 nets delivered... 10cents a net.....
What happened to the rest of the $70mill?
Maybe there is an honorable answer. I don't know. They didn't account for it.
(btw. I hope it comes down to Adam and Chris tonite. would love to see an Adam win, eh? - hey, it doesn't mean I don't like them!)
