A few years ago, I began a recovery process. At that time I would be asked "What are you doing to take care of yourself?" I never knew what that meant. I always translated "taking care of myself" as "how much money did I spend trying to make myself feel better." Eventually I realized no matter how much stuff I bought, it didn't help me feel better.
Today, for me it means it's OK to honor myself enough to know that self care is essential to my journey. Have I taken the time to breathe? Have I whispered a prayer asking for strength? Have I been grateful? Have I taken the time to reflect on all those things and people in my life that I appreciate?
It's OK to nurture yourself. It's OK to do that thing that feeds your soul. It's OK to think about what brings you joy. It's OK to be quiet and just listen for what you need.
I've found that self care is essential to my continued recovery and awakening process.
Peaceful day to all.
