Mindfulness and the Holidays

With the holiday season officially in "pressing" mode, I have started to practice mindfullness as a remedy for becoming more conscious and peaceful throughout the holiday season. Being mindful with our emotions is a regular practice for those on the warrior's path. And I have plenty to work with myself! I see this holiday period also as an opportunity, and in that ironic way, I am actually looking forward to my pratice this year. Yes I have already… Continue

Thanksgiving Reflection

Thanksgiving Reflection

Gratitude . . . the sweetest of all the practices . . . mindfulness of gratitude leads to a direct experience of being connected to life . . . to the realization that there is a larger context in which your personal story is unfolding.

Cultivating thankfulness for being part of life blossoms…

Eating Close to the Earth

Know Your Food: Eating Close to the Earth

by DailyOm

The food we eat is a multidimensional aspect of our lives. Food provides us with the energy that enables us to grow and prosper. Yet it can be, and frequently is, much, much more. Our food can be an experience in and of itself if we allow it to be. The dishes we remember from childhood offer unmatched comfort. The act of preparing meals can be an art form of the highest caliber. And… Continue

A wonderful time to practice

There are gems in the darkness if you look for them. If you allow the raw and unfettered vulnerability that lives in your soul to emerge before god and spirit, and even yourself, then there, at the center of your loving heart, you will find the surrendering, at long last, in the moment of sweet and gentle release, to the reflection of your own true light.

It has been a long time since I have written poetry. I used to write it… Continue

Faith, by David Whyte

My favorite poem on Faith of all time. Meant to be read slowly, it is surely one to savor.

Faith

I want to write about faith,

about the way the moon rises

over cold snow, night after night

faithful even as it fades from fullness,

slowly becoming that last curving and impossible

sliver of light before the final darkness.

But I have no faith myself

I refuse it the smallest… Continue

Today's Meditation - Faith (a poem for the inner child)

Hello God

Hello God, I called tonight,

To talk a little while.

I need a friend who'll listen

To my anxiety and trial.

You see, I can't quite make it

Through a day just on my own,

I need your love to guide me,

So I'll never feel alone.

I want to ask you please to keep,

My family safe and sound

Come and fill their lives with confidence,

For whatever fate they're… Continue

Healing the Past by Stefanie Miller

This essay is so beautiful I wish I had written it myself. Namaste

Snapshots: Healing the Past

by Stefanie Miller

I spent the first month and a half of my summer vacation doing little other than resting and relaxing. I thought I would embark on a project to make myself feel like I accomplished something this summer. I have a big bin of photos that I've been meaning to sort and place in albums for years now. Every time I… Continue

Leonid Meteor Shower Peaks Tuesday Morning

Strong Leonid Meteor Shower Peaks Early Tuesday Morning

One of the best annual meteor showers will peak in the pre-dawn hours Tuesday, and for some skywatchers the show could be quite impressive.

The best seats are in Asia, but North American observers should be treated to an above average performance of the Leonid meteor shower, weather permitting. The trick for all observers is to head outside in the wee hours of the… Continue

Easy Days, Hard Days - Yin and Yang in Life

Some things come easy. Others come hard. This is the yin and yang in life.

When things are flowing with ease, it feels great. We say "wow, we are guided, connected and loved by the Universe." Or even, "We must be doing something right." But when we toil or struggle, we may in fact be in a period of strengthening or faith building. Then too, we may still come to know, "wow, I am growing in Faith, strength, surrender or… Continue

On Behalf of Wolves

I was deeply saddened to learn of the loss of another magestic mother wolf. Her story is inspirational.

Wolves are fantastic beings with rich emotional lives. Wolves mate and stay together for life. When a mate dies, the partner left behind can howl in grief for many weeks or months.

For those interested, here is a wonderful link where you can support the re-establishment of some recently lost legislation and protection for… Continue

Echoes of Happiness: Belly Laughs

Well, happiness and laughter sure seem to be one of the topics of the day. And what a wonderful topic indeed.

Here is an excerpt from today's Daily Om. It was quite synchronistic, for I am discovering again this week that yes, life happens. It goes up and down, and I may surely get my moments of anixety as my hubby looks for a job and "needs" one now, but at the same time it is True: nothing can separate us from the joy and Truth we carry… Continue

Living an Authentic Life: Mask Removal

Removing our masks can feel daunting at first. We may feel vulnerable, frightened and unsure of who we really are. This is good!

I first did mask work many years ago while in theater study. (many, many years ago! lol). And then again, more consciously, in a toltec shaman apprenticeship.

When I first began to take off my masks, the ones I wore within my family, the ones that were not authentic, but survival in nature, boy,… Continue

How to Deal with Toxic People

I came across this article at ehow.com this morning. Dealing - and healing - with toxic people, especially relatives, can be a real life challenge until we develop the strength and clarity of knowing it is our birthright to remove ourselves from dysfunctional behavior and systems that hurt.

We may have already travelled through the pain of not having our basic needs for safety and nurture met, and may have faced feelings of emotional… Continue

Don't Go Back to Sleep

Don’t Go Back To Sleep

The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you;

Don’t go back to sleep.

You must ask for what you really want;

Don’t go back to sleep.

People are going back and forth across the doorsill

where the two worlds meet.

The door is round and open.

Don’t go back to sleep.
