*The Christmas Fairy*

THE CHRISTMAS FAIRY OF STRASBURG

A GERMAN FOLK-TALE

ONCE, long ago, there lived near the ancient city of Strasburg, on the river Rhine, a young and handsome count, whose name was Otto. As the years flew by he remained unwed, and never so much as cast a glance at the fair maidens of the country round; for this reason people began to call him "Stone-Heart."

It chanced that Count Otto, on one Christmas Eve, ordered that… Continue

*My Doves*

MY DOVES

OPPOSITE my chamber window,

On the sunny roof, at play,

High above the city's tumult,

Flocks of doves sit day by day.

Shining necks and snowy bosoms,

Little rosy, tripping feet,

Twinkling eyes and fluttering wings,

Cooing voices, low and sweet,--

Graceful games and friendly meetings,

Do I daily watch and see.

For these happy little neighbors

Always seem at peace to… Continue

Share What You Love - by Dr. Wayne Dyer

Share What You Love , by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer

As I was driving my daughter Sommer to the airport for her return to college after a long weekend home, she was admiring my new watch. This was the first new timepiece I’d had in at least a decade. I really enjoyed looking at its shiny steel-and-black face, and as I did, I’d think about how this was my favorite watch of all time. Yet I knew in my heart that Sommer would love to wear it,…

*Mistletoe Magic*

Mistletoe Magic

From the earliest times mistletoe has been one of the most magical, mysterious, and sacred plants of European folklore. It was considered to bestow life and fertility; a protection against poison; and an aphrodisiac. The mistletoe of the sacred oak was especially sacred to the ancient Celtic Druids. On the sixth night of the moon white-robed Druid priests would cut the oak mistletoe with a golden sickle. Two white… Continue

The Brave Little Parrot (A Lovely Tale)

The Brave Little Parrot -- A Jataka Tale

Once, long ago, the Buddha was born as a little parrot. One day a storm fell upon his forest home. Lightning flashed, thunder crashed, and a dead tree, struck by lightning, burst into flames. Sparks leapt on the wind and soon the forest was ablaze. Terrified animals ran wildly in every direction, seeking safety from the flames and smoke.

"Fire! Fire!" cried the little parrot. "To…

"The Greatest Gift" - A Buddhist Poem

The Greatest Gift

Wordly fools search for exotic masters.

not realizing that their own mind is the master.

The greatest gift to others

is to freely relinquish yourself.

When the mind is always moving, you travel

from one hell to the next hell.

If you use your mind to try and understand reality.

you will…

Celebrating Rumi

In honor of my friend Aryana's new roomate "Rumi," an adopted bijon-frisee/mix, I was reading up on my Rumi again this morning. How interesting that he was born in present-day Afghanistan. And in 2007 he "turned" 800 years old! Well, in September this year he would have been 802. So here is a belated birthday tribute to this poetic master-Mystic.

Not Christian or Jew or Muslim,

"Hurdles" - by Silent Lotus

Hurdles

When
There are
No longer
Any crowds
To cheer you on
For it seems that
All the hurdles
Are behind
Rather
Than
Beyond
You shall find
The sweet silence of divine love
To guide you on

Forgiveness

“When you haven't forgiven those who've hurt you, you turn back against your future. When you do forgive, you start walking forward.” - Tyler Perry

"If we really want to love we must learn how to forgive," - Mother Teresa

“Sincere forgiveness isn't colored with expectations that the other person apologize or change. Don't worry whether or not they finally understand you. Love them and release them. Life feeds back truth to people… Continue

Choose a Good Day

Yesterday is over. Today is a new day. Today can be whatever you choose.
Focus on those things, people, events that make you happy. Choose a god day. (typo... or not?) lol

Be Your Own Present by Valerie White

I have found it takes a bit of intentional focus - active mental and emotional exercises so to speak - to shift your own thoughts and feelings into being the one driving the vehicle of your own consciousness - especially if you've allowed thoughts and feelings of others near and dear - be the main interpretations of truth for you.

A greater number of people in society through history have grown up simply accepting the thoughts and beliefs from others to be their own as well, until… Continue

*The Art of Tact*

Yesterday I went for lunch with a couple of friends who are home for the holiday season. As we were looking over the menu, one of my friends noticed they had both a chicken salad and a chicken sandwich as a special. This particular little cafe, leaves an order pad with the menus and you write out your order. We each wrote out our orders...my friend 'absentmindedly' wrote out 'chicken sandwich' on the order slip, while we were visiting. When a while… Continue

A Warm Refuge - Best Friends

By the time we reach adulthood, many of us have had the good fortune to have at least one best friend. **10 Classroom Rules for Humans**

1. Your will receive a body. You may like it, or hate it, but it will be yours for the entire period this time around.

2. You will learn lessons. You are enrolled in a full time informal school called life. Each day in this school you have the opportunity to learn lessons. You may like the lessons or think they are irrelevant and stupid.

3. There are no mistakes, only lessons. Growth is a process of trial and error and… Continue
