Well, the Giants lost yesterday so they won't go any further int he playoffs or to the Superbowl. There is always next year. Today, it snowed here which means having to go home and thrown snow around. I like snow but the thought of having to shovel it, especially when it's heavy and wet, makes me cringe. So far, it really is a new year. All those things that tend to wear me down, seem to have dissipated and I feel a new sense of vigor and purpose. I don't know what happened but it's been a long time coming. Again, this is a space for men to be men and talk about those things that only men can understand. However, I really appreciata Alexa being a part of this group. It's okay to have the perspective of a woman when it comes to all things related to men. Here's a question, why do men tend to keep it all in? We are not the type to wear our feelings on our sleeves yet communication is key to a healthy life. Let us know what you think.

Well, us guys are not much into nurturing ourselves. It's not part of our makeup, physcially, emotionally, etc. However, we do, at times, crave the attention our mothers gave us when we were young and sick. There's something to be said for being a child, having a cold or some such illness and staying home from school for the day. My mother would get me a comic book, bring the TV into my room and give me crackers and soup. What do I know about nurturing? All I know is, when I hurt, it felt secure knowing there was some one who would bring me a comic book to read and was aware that I was sick.

I realize my example speaks to having a cold and being a kid. I think though it also applies to pain and illness on a greate scale. I think men have the attitude of "I'm sick, take care of me." then they carry on about their business of unting and gathering.

This is "Man Cave" so you're going to get a man's perspective.

All that being said, welcome to the cave.

well, at least for the moment, I too am joining man cave b/c I saw something and I wanted to respond.

When I am in pain, sometimes all I can do is to lay down and get through it. Or do busy things to get through it. It depends.
If it's emotional pain, I deal with it. Sometimes I just have to allow myself to be human...because guess what? I am.
If it's physical pain, I like to curl up in a ball and nurture myself with a big blanket. I can dig this question, Eric.

Have you ever wanted to shout so loud that you get the attention of someone, all in an effort to reassure yourself that your alive?

What do you do when you're in pain? I get snappy with my family, lose my patience with the dogs and generally get depressed? What do you do about it?
